Christmas 2017 (7-21)

I am using some printed Christmas images left over from last year (QKR Stampede digi) combined with an sentiment from Stampin' Up.  I tried something different for coloring the image.  For me, water color and printer ink don't work well together, so I experimented.  I used a dry aqua brush and SU chalk to give a rustic look to the robe. For a slightly shabby look, I cut the panels with my dull blade - it roughs up the edges a bit.    I used a marker for the shepherd's crook and a shiny burgundy for the "rope" that holds his head dress in place.  (I am sure there must be a name for that rope....)
Embellishments:  plaid washi tape; black ribbon; silver  strip that was the negative from a sheet of stickers.  I used some glitter glue on these two strips.  More - burgundy jewels, acrylic star, Quickutz embossing folder.  These are all supplies I have had for a while - a couple of years at least.

QKR Stampede Challenge #252 - Anything Goes w/ option Up, Up and Away

This is my Design Team entry for the latest  Anything Goes weekly challenge at QKR Stampede.  This Flying Birdie  QKR image is good for the Up, Up and Away option. Please join us for the challenge this week.   You may enter up to 3 times before 3p.m. EDT on Thursday July 26.  There will be two winners - one using a QKR Stampede image, and another winner for any image.
I don't usually use markers for coloring, but this bright yellow seemed just right for Mr Birdie!  I used some dp to put him in the clouds, and also used an embossed bg.  The white core cs is sanded for added dimension  The QKR Stampede sentiment was die cut and tied with a bow. I added some stars for fun.

Technique practice

I have decided it is time for me to make use of some of the many written and video tutorials that I have been watching and saving!  Another goal is to make use of some of my recent and neglected purchases.  I am not overly happy with this result, but it is against my nature to discard anything unless it is really bad!!!
The AI crew have done a lot of how-to videos on many topics, including water coloring.  They make it look so easy.  Well, it may be easy for them, but I need to work on my skills.  The background is another story. I used a few drops of reinker -- I just placed them on a used gift card.  I used a second gift card to pick up some of the color, and kind of spatter it on the water color paper.  Next time I will spritz some water for a softer look.  For the left panel I mixed blue and avocado.  The right hand side .used avocado ink.  With a tooth pick I spread out some gold glitter glue - probably a bit too heavy handed for my taste.  I used some of the same glitter glue along the edge of the green mats as well as on the rocks.
My hint - I save a small paper cutter with a very dull blade which I use to cut when I want to achieve a bit of a distressed look.  For me, that is easier than tearing.
I used watercolor paper for the image  (AI Windows to the World) and the bg.   That is why the verse around the image is a bit blurred.

SCS Tea Pot Party for Dani

On SplitCoastStampers the tea potters have a weekly challenge to follow a theme, and, if we wish, to send the card to a deserving recipient.  This week we are sending birthday cards to Dani, a member of SCS, who is mostly bedridden due to severe back pain.  We are taking a party, so I thought I would bring the band.  This is such a fun Art Impressions stamp.  I thought I would add some sequins to glam up the gal in red - not sure it is a successful idea!  The gold ribbon adds a bit more sparkle, as does the shiny gel pens used for a couple of the instruments.  I used Prismas for the rest of the coloring.

QKR Stampede DT Card ~ Anything Goes; Option - By the Seaside

This is my Design Team card for challenge #252 at QKR Stampede - anything goes, with the option by the seaside.  I think I stretched that a bit, as this is more "on the sea". Both the image "ship" and the sentiment are available from the QKR Stampede store.  This challenge is open through Thursday, July 20 at 6 p.m. EDT.  Two winners will receive QKR images.  See details here.
For the background I did what for me is unthinkable - I cut into the middle of a sheet of cs!  You probably cannot even see it here, but there is a subtle map - the US, Mexico and Central America are just to the left of the image.  I wanted some of the ocean visible - but it is not clear at all.  Oh, well.  I used ribbon at the top and washi tape along the bottom.  The sentiment is raised with pop dots.

Selfie Sandy: GDT Thursday Inspiration card for Imagine That Digistamp

Today is the day that I can announce that I have been selected as a Guest Designer this quarter for Imagine That Digistamp.  I am looking forward to this fun experience, and am especially happy to be sharing this gig with Kren.
For my first card I selected an image from a set called Selfie Sandy.  It is also part of a bundle that includes Snappy Sandy.  How perfect for today's teens!  I colored my image with Prisma pencils, but there are also pre-colored images included.  The DP used in the frame is part of another set called Beach Combing Digi Papers.  IRL, the color is more teal than it appears here
Additional information, more inspiration, and the monthly Anything Goes challenge can be found here:  Imagine That Digi Stamp Creative Playground
You may shop the store here:  Imagine That Digi Stamp Store
To complete the card, I used  Tim Holtz' brick embossing folder, from Sizzix; a bit of cord, some bling, and the filmstrip and sentiment from the Selfie Sandy set.

HB, Terry

This probably should have a belated sentiment as I doubt the mail will get it to our son-in-law on time.  I just did not get it finished yesterday!  As long as I keep finding new fishing images, I am set for his birthday, as he loves to fish at every opportunity.  This is a pre colored freebie from TLC - (cut with oval dies) thanks once again.  I found a piece of red and white dp in my scrap stash that just about matches that pre-colored shirt!  The sentiment is a digi from Eureka.  To finish the card I used some cord for the diagonal lines, and, since the fish on the line looked a bit small I added a couple more (rub ons).
Part of the inside verse says:  "FISH:  an animal that grows the fastest between the time it's caught and the time the fisherman describes it to his friends."

Last challenge at ODB

How sad!  Another announcement of a final challenge - this time, from Our Daily Bread.  This has been another of my favorite challenges, and it has been such a source of inspiration.  Sadly, I have never been able to create a card as lovely as those of their DT members, but I can always try.  I think I have used the colors correctly - including a dusting of pink chalk at the edge of the oval.

QKR Stampede DT card - Challenge #250 - Anything Goes; Option - Christmas in July

This week the Anything Goes challenge at QKR Stampede will give you an opportunity to get an early start on Christmas cards - the option (not required) is Christmas in July. You may enter up to 3 times before 6 p.m EDT Thursday.  The winner receives 2 images, and there are 3 images for a winner who uses a QKR or Eureka image.  For me, this QKR Stampede image (Bethlehem with verse) will be a great one for multiple cards as hubby and I want to include the Christmas message on our cards.
I opted to print the verse and image together, but they could easily be separated for a different look.  I have often used this snowflake embossing folder - I need to get one with stars!  I added gold and deep red layers as well as a Merry Christmas from QKR Stampede.  I must admit it seems a bit out of sync doing a Christmas card with temps hovering around 110!
Keep the victims of the many wildfires, as well as the firefighters, in your prayers.  Our grandson is a hot shot fire fighter stationed in Utah.

Speedy Recovery, Dennis

This is for Dennis, a deacon at our church, who is recovering from surgery.
Image - pre-colored Dearie Doll; misc. DP from my stash, sequins; clip art school bell.
(There is an inside joke for the bell.  My hubby has had very limited mobility for a year and a half due to severe back pain.  He sometimes needs some assistance, and I may have trouble hearing him.  He can use one of my school bells to call me.  Dennis gives us a great deal of grief about this!!!  So we offered to lend one to him.)
ETA:  Dennis has had a setback and returned to the hospital.  Please say a prayer for his recovery, if you are so inclined.

DT card fpr QKR Stampede #249, Anything GOes - option Paper Piecing
